Around fifty artists will be involved in the festival, either exhibiting in the art exhibition, leading workshops or hosting a stall at the art market, with the majority from Haringey. The art exhibition runs for the duration of the four days, in a spacious, bright third-floor gallery space owned by Green Rooms, above the popular Oita Kitchen, who will be exhibiting some artworks within their restaurant . The workshops and the final day art market will both take place in the colourful and characterful  Blue House Yard. There’ll be an eclectic range of art for sale from painters and printmakers, photographers and sculptors.

The programme of free art activities will include a Chinese calligraphy workshop, a session on collage making and printmaking, all led by professional artists and aimed at families and big kids alike. A full programme can be seen on the Citizens Art Festival website here

Citizens Art Festival is the creation of artist and photographer Edward Quigley and Antonis Christodoulides, who runs a custom framing and mounting service. Edward launched a series of art markets in August 2020 which began in Blue House Yard in Wood Green and recently expanded to a second location in Ebury Edge, Pimlico.

“The festival marks the start of the Citizens Art Market programme of activity in 2022, so I can’t wait to be part of something really special”, explains Edward.

The Citizens Art Festival builds on the success of the art markets and Edward’s collaboration with Antonis felt like a natural next step in their work of supporting Haringey artists and wanting to help develop the arts scene in and around Wood Green where they both work.

I think it’s important to shine a spotlight on the things people are doing here, it boosts the area and shows aspiring artists, young and old, what they can achieve without feeling unappreciated in the face of many of the institutions that wave the wand at the more fortunate”.  Antonis

Haringey has a thriving art scene, and has hosted a significant number of public art projects and art events in recent years that have involved the local community and brought more prominence to the wealth of art and artists in the borough. Citizens Art Festival aims to contribute to this growth and bring artists and art lovers together, connecting them with families and local people – art for all citizens!
