PAST LIVES

Delivering what many regarded as the most romantically devastating film of last year, Past Lives is a superbly textured and complex generational love story. Young Hae Sung and Nora are childhood friends, but when Nora’s family move away, their friendship comes to an unexpectedly abrupt end.

Years pass and the now adult Hae Sung (Teo Yoo) makes contact with Nora (Greta Lee) and the two spend time getting to know each other again virtually whilst being in different countries. But life gets in the way yet again, and years pass before they finally meet up in-person. Despite Nora now being married, does their undeniable chemistry still flicker? Writer/Director Celine Song has rightly been lauded as the next name to watch out for, and Past Lives could definitely be an underdog winner come awards season. Critics and audiences absolutely fell in love with this truthful and realistic portrayal of genuine love and affection, and coupled with such amazing lead performances and shot with breathtaking beauty, this would be a worthy winner in any category it competed in.
