Death of a Unicorn

Every once in a while, you’ll get an utterly random film show up out of nowhere and you can’t help but wonder how the hell was this movie ever pitched and green-lit?! Death of a Unicorn is one of those films. It’s enjoyable in its own way, and has a very good cast, but it’s an odd concept that doesn’t fully work given the sum of its parts. Father-Daughter duo Elliott and Ridley (Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega) are on their way to a mansion in the countryside belonging to Elliott’s rich boss Odell (Richard E. Grant), his wife (Tea Leoni), son (Will Poulter) and house staff (Anthony Carrigan & Jessica Hynes). Onroute they accidentally hit a strange animal with their car, which turns out to be a unicorn. Throwing it in the boot of the car and bringing it with them to the mansion, the mega-wealthy pharmaceutical CEO Odell spies an opportunity. It’s all a bit mad but it’s fun to watch, with a high gore count and lots of laughs, even if it doesn’t quite come together.
