WOLF MAN

With an unexpected reveal of what this particular ‘Wolf Man’ looked like quite a few months ago (at a theme park ride of all places), it’s safe to say that underwhelming was the order of the day. But with some much-needed context and an energetic script full of brevity, I’m pleasantly surprised to say that Wolf Man is actually a lot of fun. Sure, you’ll suss out the whole movie within the first 5 minutes and some of the dialogue is ropey, but for the most part this is a very effective take on the classic Wolfman legacy and a suitably creepy addition to the ever growing stable of Blumhouse modern horrors. Director and co-writer Leigh Whannell knows how to deliver effective genre hits, and with Christopher Abbott on fine form, this is a surprisingly good effort which includes some of the best werewolf transformation scenes we’ve seen in years.
