ARTISTS WALK ART TRAIL

Runs until 30 SEPTEMBER 2021

ALEXANDRA PALACE, LONDON, UK

A new art trail is opening in the grounds of Alexandra Palace this summer showcasing a selection of artists from the borough of Haringey. Following the success of Artists Walk 2020 during last year’s lockdown, Artist and Curator Rosha Nutt was successful in her bid for funding from the Mayor of London’s Make London campaign to enable the trail to go ahead.

Artists Walk at Alexandra Palace will run for three months and will include sculptures by Julia Clarke, artworks by Ben Wilson (the chewing gum artist), audio art by Kieron Rennie and a poster show of work by a growing line-up of 22 additional artists. Artworks will be displayed throughout the grounds and an online map will be accessible to all.

“Artists have had a really tough time over the pandemic, so many galleries and events have been cancelled. This art trail is a wonderful opportunity to champion the talent from the borough. The grounds of Alexandra Palace are beautiful and accessible to everyone and the trail offers a healthy way to take in art outside of the traditional gallery space. We hope bringing local artists into view within the community creates connections, conversations and possibly even some sales for the artists.” Rosha Nutt, Artists and Curator.

Mark Civil, Alexandra Palace head of creative learning says: “We’re really excited to see the Artists Walk at the Palace this summer. It definitely feels the right moment to shine a light on some amazing artists and provide a new way for their works to be displayed and enjoyed. With works spread across the Park and Palace, some standing out, while others a little harder to find, the trail will provide an additional flavour of culture and excitement for visitors to explore.”

The initial Artists Walk project launched in late 2020 with the aim of providing a simple way for artists and art lovers to make connections and new discoveries in their area. It encouraged the local community to support artists who were missing out on their usual exhibiting opportunities due to gallery closures during lockdown and allowed everyone to benefit from the joy art can bring. Artists were invited to show their work in their windows and were added to an interactive map on the Artists Walk website. There was also work displayed in some windows at Alexandra Palace in North London and a mural site created in arches on the palace.

It was a great success amongst the art community who participated and was featured in local, national and international press. Founder Rosha Nutt and Art Marketing Consultant Holly Collier were recently included in the May 2021 Time Out London magazine in their ‘Future Makers’ article.

Artists Walk 2021 takes on a slightly different format with the emphasis on a curated outdoor exhibition at Alexandra Palace. The premise remains the same however, with the focus on bringing a spotlight to local artists and providing art for the general public to enjoy on their walks. The trail is family friendly and covid-secure with all artworks outside.

“We’re bringing local art out into the community in which it’s been created. It’s a platform for artists and their neighbours to come together outside of the gallery space. Taking in artworks whilst on a walk is something that has wide appeal for all generations and backgrounds and we hope to explore this idea further in the future.”
