Counselling in Highgate

Tucked away in an unassuming historical building in the heart of Highgate Village is Highgate Counselling Centre. For decades, its calm, plant-filled rooms have been invaluable, private spaces for people to share emotional or relationship difficulties.

Established in 1960, HCC is one of the UK’s oldest counselling centres. William Kyle, pastoral counsellor and psychotherapist, founded the Centre as a place where therapists and volunteers could donate their time to those in need of support, irrespective of ability to pay. The Centre’s low-cost scheme and income-based fees reflect this enduring ethos.

Today, the Centre offers a safe, non-judgmental space, where skilled counsellors help people explore thoughts and feelings, cope with bereavement, or understand the roots of their depression or anxiety. Counsellors also work with couples and families to help them see each other’s perspectives and improve communication.

HCC provides a gateway into the counselling profession: running workshops, training new counsellors, and offering clinical placements. Its training is BACP accredited – a mark of high quality.

The counselling service and training are always evolving, staying up-to-date with contemporary thinking and reflecting best practice. Yet HCC remains true to its founding ethos: to provide counselling to those who seek it, from within a supportive community of counsellors.
