Achievements at Laurel Park School
It has been a year since we opened Laurel Park School, seeing our school community grow together to make Laurel Park the number one place to be. Over the last year, we have had a significant number of visitors to the school and without a shadow of a doubt, no one can deny the buzz or what we are doing as a school to shape the lives of young people. In the first year, we have celebrated so many achievements. Kieran in year 9 is the London champion in his age category for trampolining, whilst Tia is to represent Middlesex in Athletics. We are a small school, which is like a family. We pride ourselves on knowing all our young people, their talents and what we can do for them to ensure that we nurture their talents and skills, something that isn’t always possible in very big schools.
We look forward to opening our sixth form in September, which will be a vocational and industry-based route for students who want to study in a work-related learning environment. We are super excited by this and the prospects this may bring for the local community. We are outward facing and as a mainstream secondary school offering Beauty as an option choice for KS4, we are looking to branch this out to include hairdressing and barbering in the coming year. Why do we do this? Because we listen to our young people and parents, and we want to ensure that all students have a pathway in education as we believe a one size fits all isn’t suitable for everyone.
To finish, I share with you part of a thank you card from one of our Year 11s. She said “When you first came, I instantly admired how you presented yourself, not just as a headteacher but as a woman. It influenced me to want to be like that someday, someone inspirational. You have contributed to my dream of wanting to be a teacher and eventually a headteacher…” This is why we do what we do at Laurel Park, we inspire young people to think big, aim high and embrace the opportunity. This is one of so many stories and achievements that I am fortunate to hear every day from our students in our school. At Laurel Park we Learn, Persevere and Succeed through our core values of Integrity, Determination, Excellence and Ambition.
