After a patchy summer we have been lucky to enjoy an Indian Summer through September. But the mornings are definitely cooler and nights are starting to draw in, heralding the start of Autumn.

A cousin of mine who emigrated to California many years ago, once told me that the thing she missed most about the UK was the changing of the seasons. I agree with her and I think we are lucky to have them. Each season brings its own unique beauty and the change provides variety and prevents monotony. They break up the routine of daily life and keep things interesting. Seasons remind us that change is a natural and inevitable part of life. They teach us that, just as nature undergoes transformation, so do we. The cyclical nature of changing seasons can serve as a reminder of the importance of balance in our lives. Just as nature has its periods of growth and rest, so do we.

After a tumultuous year, I am using the start of Autumn to try and find some harmony and balance in my own life. In nature it is the season of shedding so likewise I shall be decluttering my physical space and trying to let go of some of my mental clutter. As the natural world around me changes I shall try and embrace the changes in my life, both big and small and see them as opportunities for growth and renewal rather than as obstacles. It’s a work in progress but I hope it’s the start of a calmer time.
