Leave a Legacy. Make a Change.

We strongly encourage everyone to make a will to ensure that when they pass away, their money and property will be distributed according to their wishes. We also understand that family and loved ones come first in any will planning.

While in the planning process we would be extremely grateful if you also considered leaving a gift to The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre. The circumstances of a legacy gift are always difficult which is why as a small charity we so appreciate them because they make a huge difference in what we do and how we help.

Recently a beloved client, volunteer and friend of The Nightingale, sadly passed away. We were honoured to learn that she had made a generous gesture of remembering The Nightingale in her will. We asked her daughter Amy why it was so important to her mum Julie that she leave a legacy.

“While mum was finalising her will, we had a very open discussion about leaving a legacy to various charities, including The Nightingale.

Mum was so appreciative of all the support she received from when she was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2012. The Nightingale helped her through her illness, supported her through her recovery and helped her to come to terms with the life changing effects of surgery.

She was fiercely independent but the effects of her surgery were hard for her to adjust to and impacted her confidence, particularly in social situations. I think that was hard for mum and not easy for her to talk about or explain to her friends. The Nightingale was somewhere she could talk openly and where she knew people would listen and understand.

And of course, everyone at The Nightingale was there for her when she found out the cancer had returned in 2019. Because of all of that support, The Nightingale meant a huge amount to her.

I was very happy mum chose to support The Nightingale with a legacy. It seemed only right that she continue to support in death a charity that she had supported and been supported by for so many years.

The Nightingale is such an important local charity doing excellent work supporting and bringing hope to cancer sufferers. I think leaving a legacy is a really good way of supporting them as it is a lasting, positive impact, not only for The Nightingale, but for those who benefit from their services.”

We are so grateful to Julie for her generous gift and ask you to please consider The Nightingale when writing or amending your will. A gift of any size, small or large will make a massive difference in being able to offer all of our services free of charge long into the future.
