Hospital at home
As the pandemic continues, usual hospital services are being slowed down and brought to a halt.
Sammy Margo Physiotherapy is visiting many patients in their homes who don’t want to be a “burden” on the NHS.
‘We’re COVID safe and following government guidelines. Our staff are temperature checked and regularly tested and most of us have now been vaccinated. We’re wearing PPE and doing Home Visits for patients in acute pain, elderly care, strokes, falls, fractures, loss of confidence and long COVID’
Sammy Margo, who runs private practices in Hampstead, Highgate and Totteridge says Hampstead, Highgate’s and Totteridge’s older generation are “petrified” of going into hospital.
With health services focused on the Covid-19 frontline, Sammy is worried that “we are solving one problem but creating another” by directing efforts towards coronavirus patients, yet at the same time worsening other people’s medical conditions.
As a result, Sammy has adapted to the pandemic and set up a ‘Hospital at Home Physio Service’
Sammy said Hampstead, Highgate’s and Totteridge residents often see things “differently”
She paid tribute to this “amazing generation” who had developed a sense of resilience meaning.
“They’re incredibly pragmatic and full of wisdom and say that being treated at home is ‘safer’ than going out”
“They are practical about the situation and want to do their bit to help the NHS by trying to stay well whilst awaiting their turn for the vaccination.”
