Math Magic: Supporting Children’s Learning Journey

Math Magic: Supporting Children’s Learning Journey

At Mathnasium we’re passionate about maths — and we want to make your child feel that way too. Whether your child struggles in maths or needs a greater challenge, our proven approach makes believers out of even the most uncertain parents and children.

Customer reviews and testimonials tell us that we truly change lives through maths every day. (Check out the all-5-star google reviews from Crouch End & Muswell Hill branches).

The Mathnasium Mission is to teach children maths so they understand it, master it, and love it and we do this by ensuring that students don’t just learn how to memorise or calculate, they learn to truly understand the way maths works. As they increase comprehension and build maths skills, their confidence grows, and they strengthen their natural love of learning.

Whether they need to catch up, get ahead or prepare for the 11+ or GCSEs, there’s plenty of time to turn things around this school year with personalised maths tuition at Mathnasium. A bespoke learning plan will focus on what each child needs to improve their maths skills and build their confidence. With the right materials, the right instruction, and the right support, any child can learn, enjoy and thrive in maths.

Devonshire House Nursery School

Devonshire House Nursery School in Hampstead Renovates and Expands the Classrooms.

After last year’s outdoor refurbishment, Devonshire House Nursery’s classrooms have had a complete makeover during the Summer.

The Nursery School, part of a Prep School in the heart of Hampstead, is now composed of two spacious classrooms for children aged 2 to 3, in addition to two sleep rooms and one sensory room; and three brand new classrooms for children aged 3 to 4.

The décor is light, bright and airy with plenty of space for children to explore. The environment is carefully considered to ensure children’s first steps away from home are positive and in a safe, secure and stimulating environment.

Resources and equipment reflect a sustainable approach, which is also filtered in some areas throughout the school, with real life objects, and natural and upcycled transient materials.

Children take autonomy in their learning experiences and this is continued in the freshly renovated playground.

Mount House Sixth Form

An exciting range of pathways at Mount House Sixth Form

Mount House School offers a very nurturing and tailored Sixth Form environment which supports each student on an individual basis, in their chosen pathway.  From September 2023, we are delighted to offer two academic pathways.

Alongside our extensive A Level curriculum the school is also looking to offer the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (IBCP).  Mount House is a candidate school for the IB Career Programme and is pursuing authorisation as an IB World School. *

Students may choose to take three, and sometimes four, A levels or follow the IB Programme.  For both pathways, teaching takes place in small groups of between five and twelve students, enabling our experienced teachers to offer a personalised level of support.

For many the A Level pathway is the right one with the chance to explore some of their favourite subjects in depth. For others an approach that offers more coursework-based learning and skills focus alongside their academic studies can be the key to unlocking their highest potential in the last years of their secondary education.

If you would like to find out more about our Sixth Form, please contact us to book a personal tour on 0208 449 6889, email admissions@mounthouse.org.uk  or book a place at one of our Open Mornings at www.mounthouse.org.uk

Mr Jon Copper, Senior Deputy Head

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorisation will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org

Broomfield School appoints a new Headteacher for September 2022

Broomfield School appoints a new Headteacher for September 2022

The Board of Governors of Broomfield School is delighted to announce the appointment of Adele Christofi as our new Headteacher. Adele will lead the school from September 2022, taking over from Cate Seymour who has been Interim Headteacher for the past year.

Adele joins Broomfield following 12 years at Holy Family Catholic School in Walthamstow, in role as Head of the Upper School. Prior to that, she was at Queen Elizabeth’s Girls’ School in Barnet, where she was a Head of Year and Acting Assistant Head Teacher.

Adele joins us with a background of drama teaching. She studied at the prestigious Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, which has trained the likes of Laurence Olivier and Dame Judi Dench. Whilst at Central she completed a degree in Drama and Education, followed by a PGCE in Drama. Most recently, she has also completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship alongside the Institute of Education.

The Chair of the Board of Governors, Prof. Gregory Thwaites, began the recruitment process in December 2021, intent on finding a candidate with the requisite qualities to maintain, and

build upon, the educational standards already in place at the school.

“Adele impressed us all throughout the process with her vision, warmth, experience, attention to detail and passion for comprehensive education” said Mr Thwaites. “This is a new step on Broomfield’s journey of continual improvement.”

“I’m really excited for Ms Christofi to be our headteacher from September. Broomfield is a great school with lots of opportunities for me to excel both in the classroom and in our school community.” Year 10 student

“I joined Broomfield in September 2021 and I have already been involved in lots of sports clubs, music clubs, law society, debating society and the school production of Matilda. I am also a Broomfield Ambassador which means I get to go back to my primary school and talk about the move from primary to secondary school” Year 7 student

From Ms Christofi:

At Broomfield School we are committed to all students having a quality education that is underpinned by an ambitious academic curriculum and is supported by a range of personal enrichment and super curricular opportunities, with our overall aim to develop well rounded young adults, ready to tackle the world.

This is achieved through our 4 key areas:

  • Curriculum
  • Character
  • Culture
  • Community

By following these 4 key areas, Broomfield students will understand their learning in relation to the wider world we live in. Students will be developed into leaders who are fully prepared for 21st century life.

Come and see Broomfield in October at our Open Evening on Tuesday 4th October at 6pm. Listen to my vision for the school, meet our students and see our facilities. I look forward to meeting you all individually.
