Naked London
Do you enjoy going nude into the kitchen to make the morning tea at the weekend? Feel freedom when unclothed at home, in the sauna or have enjoyed a European beach without irritating beach wear?
Chances are, you’re already a secret naturist and don’t admit it to yourself, let alone others. Don’t worry, you’re not alone – an Ipsos poll recently revealed that 14% (equating to 6.75 million adults) in the UK describe themselves as Naturists or Nudists. So, outside of your home, where can you go to get naked around London?
The World Naked Bike Ride, London takes place in June each year. This is part of a world movement that started as protest against the global dependency on oil, and to obtain real rights for cyclists. Unless you are wearing 100% organic materials, there will be oil-based fibres in your clothes. Discarding clothing was an ideal protest.
The ride has grown bigger each year. It now has several start locations across London, where riders can meet and ride to the main procession. The route is not traffic free, but numbers ensure bicycles achieve easy passage. For the less adventurous, mirrored sunglasses and a cycle helmet can provide a degree of anonymity. However, if you enjoy the experience of being publicly naked, join afterparties to continue the celebrations.
British Naturism (BN) is the internationally recognised UK national Naturist organisation with a long history that has seen the drawing together of several organisations. Many affiliated clubs have venues around London and within easy reach of the M25. The BN Sunfolk is a five-acre woodland naturist site near St Albans, that BN are currently redeveloping as a location, rather than a club. When it reopens at Easter 2024, the facilities will include a covered pool and glamping. The pay-as-you-go entry will make the site easily accessible to newcomers.
BN also organises live and online events – yoga, exercise classes and pub nights. It also supports affiliated clubs in organising their own events. These take place across the southeast. All events (online and live) are carefully moderated to ensure safety and an enjoyable experience. Safeguarding is the highest priority; with safe spaces, designated members, and a dedicated text number should anyone want help or reassurance.
BN also organises the Great British Skinny Dip around the coast and Naked Heart Walks in corporation with BHF. These are clothes optional and an ideal starting place for new naturists, and those who may have reluctant partners. Either way you will enjoy some stunning locations and hopefully enjoy the sun (or rain) on your body.
