Firs Farm Community Hub hold their first charity event

In an inspiring talk on the work of the charity, “Only A Pavement Away”, Home Care Preferred Social Enterprise hosted their first charity awareness event on 7th May 24’. Dedicated to raising awareness for the charity, the event, held at Firs Farm Community Hub in Winchmore Hill, brought together local business owners, interested residents and trustees of other charities.

With the overarching theme of Homelessness, the event aimed to shed light on how “Only A Pavement Away”, are supporting people at risk of homelessness, to obtain meaningful work in the hospitality sector.

“We were happy to see local people showing support for this cause,” said Ken Waterhouse, Managing Director of Home Care Preferred Social Enterprise. “This will be the first of regular charity events at the hub.  Not only do we wish to raise vital awareness, but we also wish to foster a sense of community and empowerment.”

Throughout the event, participants had the opportunity to learn about the challenges faced by individuals in seeking employment, in particular people leaving prison and military veterans. Information was explained about the various initiatives and programs offered by the charity to provide support and assistance.

Ria Garrett, the speaker from “Only A Pavement Away”, remarked, “I’m really happy to be part of an organisation that has already helped 410 people that were homeless or at risk of being homeless into jobs. Our aim is to help 1000 people into work by the end of 2024. I hope we can work further with Home Care Preferred Social Enterprise at Firs Farm Community Hub to raise further awareness.”
