The Barnet Food Hub is a community-based project run out of the Old East Barnet Library. We work to provide additional food and resources to the boroughs most vulnerable residents by supporting 17 of our local foodbanks and various other community groups.

Our aim is to ensure that foodbanks have the ability to provide sufficient, safe and nutritious food to all who use their services. The project, run by Barnet Together, is a collaboration between Inclusion Barnet, Volunteering Barnet, Groundwork London, the Young Barnet Foundation and is part of our response to the pandemic.

We are delighted to announce that on 1st April 2021, The World Memon Organisation (WMO) joined as one of our supporting partners. The partnership will support the Barnet Food Hub through the supply of food and other essential items that are distributed to our 17 foodbank partners across Barnet for an additional 3-6 months. This will allow our team to purchase more items that are harder to source through food waste redistribution, allowing for a better supply of items such as eggs, cooking oil and culturally specific items.

Mr Mahmood Shaikhani, Deputy President of WMO said “The WMO Food Program is yet another global initiative that firmly underlines the evolution of WMO from an organization that was founded to uplift the Memon Community to an institution that Serves all Mankind.  We transcend countries, boundaries, religion, community, caste, colour, race and creed. We Serve Humanity and this is the time for everyone to come together to heal the nation as it continues to reel under the Corona pandemic. At a time, when the World needs healing, our compassion must lead the way'” concluded an emphatic Mahmood Shaikhani

The Worshipful Mayor of the London Borough of Barnet, Cllr Caroline Stock said “ It has been really heartening to watch how in these exceptionally difficult times communities have come together from all faiths and backgrounds to ensure that Barnet’s most vulnerable residents are supplied with essential food items. I have had the privilege to visit a number of the food banks over the last year and on each occasion have come away feeling humbled. I am delighted that the WMO Food Program have come on board to help with supplies for the next 3-6 months. Can I also take this opportunity to thank all the amazing people involved with ‘Young Barnet Foundation’ especially Janet Matthewson and Barnet Together, for all they have done to get Barnet through this horrendous pandemic.”
