Festive Fun Walk Saturday 7th December 2019 Trent Park, EN4

Get into the Christmas spirit and join The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre for a holly jolly Festive Fun Walk (or skip, jog or run!) at Trent Park, Cockfosters.

We invite you to wear your favourite Christmas clothing and join us for a morning full of festivities whilst raising funds for The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre.

10.30am  2km buggy friendly fun walk/run

11.30am 5km Festive walk including a trail through the woodlands of the park.*

Children of all ages on the 5km route are invited to take part in our festive themed scavenger hunt to spot wonderful seasonal objects/items through the woodlands. At the end of the walk all completed answer sheets will also receive a festive goody!

Whatever the weather, this event is set to be warm-hearted with plenty of festive cheer including carol singers, Christmas crafts for children and a mince pies for all participants.

*Please note the 5km may not be suitable for pushchairs due to the nature of the woodland terrain.

Sales of charity Christmas cards are an essential way for charities to generate income and continue their work to improve and enhance lives.  

Cards for Good Causes (CFGC) stocks one of the widest selections of charity Christmas cards available across the UK every year, in some 300 outlets.  Each of the over 25 charities represented derives at least 70p in every £1 from the sale of their cards.  This amount is less the VAT payable on the amount retained by Cards for Good Causes and is more than high street retailers because we do not make a profit on our card sales. 

With such a wide choice, you will almost certainly find your favourite charity represented here, and this year we will be stocking local charity cards from North London Hospice and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.  In addition we stock Advent calendars, well-priced stocking-fillers and festive decorations and a great selection of wrapping paper, gift bags and gift tags.  

Our volunteers are extremely welcoming.  Refreshments are offered free of charge in a “café” setting.  There is free on-street parking and provision for wheelchair access.  We look forward to seeing you.

Enfield Wellbeing Showcase Is Back… 

Enfield’s very popular and much loved Wellbeing Showcase event, now in its fourth year, is back at the Dugdale Centre on Saturday 2 November 2019, from 11am to 5pm. Your £5 entry supports a local charity; this year it is Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. 

Exhibitors and visitors will find – the Spa Zone, with taster sessions for visitors to experience different therapies; the Speaker Zone, with mini-workshops/talks running throughout the day and are free to attend, once the entry is paid; and importantly the Shopper Zone, giving visitors the chance to shop, talk to experts, ranging from tarot readers, to jewellery makers, beauty consultants to reflexologists! 

Enfield’s Wellbeing Showcase is recognised for giving local businesses the opportunity to promote their wellbeing services and products to local shoppers. Incredibly, over the last three years the Enfield Wellbeing Showcase has attracted over 650 visitors; raised £1,950 for charities and crucially has boosted over 120 local business communities through its Wellbeing Practitioners and Women in Business networking groups. 

Cheryl-lya Broadfoot, Organiser and Founder of the Wellbeing Showcase says, “We are very proud and excited to be back in Enfield for our fourth year and this year is going to be bigger. I want more wonderful local wellbeing businesses to get in-touch and be part of this fabulous community event. We have big ambitions and by 2025, we want every London Borough to have a Wellbeing Showcase, but remember it all started here in Enfield”

Zoe White of Zinfinity says, “The Wellbeing Showcase is a wonderful event and has given me the opportunity to showcase my sensory and inclusive jewellery. Importantly, I have made lots of sales, including one to the Mayor! I have also had people sign up to my workshops and there were lovely conversations with the public asking about my work. It was also a great way to meet other stallholders and make contacts. I love this event!”

Each event is non-profit and volunteer-led. The Mayor of Enfield will be joining us too!

Make a date to join The Race for Life in Finsbury Park 21st/22nd July 2019

This year, for the first time, Cancer Research UK is inviting everyone in the area – women, men and children – to join the Race for Life. There are events for people of all ages and abilities taking place at Finsbury Park 21/22 July. This year we have a 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy and Pretty Muddy Kids event returning to Finsbury Park.

Dearbhla Cormacain Cancer Research UK’s Event Manager, said: “Our Race for Life events are fun, colourful, emotional and uplifting. They help people with cancer by raising money for research, including clinical trials which give patients in London access to the latest treatments. You don’t have to be sporty to take part.  You don’t need to train or compete against anyone else. All you need to do is go to the Race for Life website, pick an event, sign up and then have fun raising money in whatever way you like.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy and Pretty Muddy Kids events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer by funding crucial research.

She continued: “The Race for Life is a powerful, inspirational movement which unites participants across North London and the whole of the UK. Taking part in our Race for Life events enables like-minded people to get together and remember loved ones lost to cancer or celebrate the lives of those who have survived.  At the same time, they are helping to make a difference to people with cancer, right now.”

She added: “Our Race for Life events have been women-only since they started, over 25 years ago.  But we now feel the time is right to open them up so that everyone – women, men and children – has the chance to participate together. One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer, at some point during their lifetime.  Sadly, this means nearly everyone is touched by the disease, either directly or through a loved one or friend. To make a significant difference in the fight against cancer we need to harness as much energy and commitment as possible – so what better way than involving everyone in the community in our events.”

Thanks to everyone who raises money, Cancer Research UK is able to fund research to fight 200 types of cancer.  The good news is more people are surviving the disease than ever before. Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.
