THE PALMERS GREENERY: YOUR COMMUNITY CAFE IN BROOMFIELD PARK

A group of neighbours had a dream to convert disused toilets in Broomfield Park into a Community Cafe serving healthy, affordable and locally sourced treats, powered by volunteers and investing profits into park projects.

Today, The Palmers Greenery is a thriving and much loved hub doing exactly that. Open 5 days a week and with a team of 50 dedicated volunteers, the project has served thousands of cups of tea, seen friendships develop, kids be born (and grow!) and has a most wonderful loyal customer base – two and four-legged.

Our menu is simple. Hot and cold drinks, snacks and fresh cakes and bakes from local suppliers. We take our environmental responsibility seriously – incentivising reusables but all our disposables are biodegradable. Coffee grounds are composted by the Friends of Broomfield Park and we recycle all our internal waste.

We have invested over £35,000 in projects that have benefitted the park and local people and developed relationships with a range of local groups. Perhaps most importantly, we provide work experience for young people and adults with additional needs and our partnership with West Lea School is particularly valued.

In June 2024 we celebrate 10 years since we opened our hatches and look forward to the next decade!
