Now that’s what I call a festival… 49!

The highly anticipated East Finchley Festival is returning for its 49th year, with an exciting line-up of activities and entertainment for all ages. The festival will take place on Sunday 18th June in Cherry Tree Wood, N2, opposite East Finchley station, and will feature an array of local food vendors, artisanal crafts, and live music performances.

MOBO award winning DJ, Pat ‘Have Mercy’ Leacock, and singer Kate Galston will once again host the main stage with performances from a diverse selection of local acts.

There will be a host of family-friendly activities taking place. Children can enjoy storytelling, eco-arts, traditional games, Beat the Goalie, tennis, basketball and – back by popular demand – Laser Tag in the woods

Festival-goers can expect to see a variety of unique crafts and gifts, from handmade jewellery to bespoke homewares from over 70 local artisan makers, as well as an array of delicious street food from some of East Finchley’s favourite vendors.

Back again pulling the pints are the gang from Muswell Hillbilly Brewers, who will be serving a festival ale, brewed specially for the event, along with a selection of other locally brewed beers.

Entry is free and festival goers are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket and pitch up for the day to enjoy all that’s on offer

Going green

Since East Finchley Festival CIC took over the running of the popular festival, they have explored innovative ways to make the festival more sustainable. This year the community stage will be solar powered, and the festival’s one-and-only generator will be running on low-carbon Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil. The festival banned the use of plastic some years ago and ensures that all food packaging is compostable, including vegware cups.

Organiser Alison Roberts said, “The festival is more than just a free fun day out, it’s also intended to boost the local community by providing a platform for local traders and artists, but we’re mindful of the impact on the local environment too, and want to make sure that we give more than we take.

East Finchley Festival is unique in that it’s completely independent and receives no financial support from the local council. Organiser Mike Hughes said, “We welcome involvement from local businesses and are always happy to discuss sponsorship opportunities. It’s a true community event and we’d like everyone to be part of it.”

The team also needs dozens of volunteer stewards on the day. If you can spare an hour or would like to find out about other volunteering opportunities at the festival, please email [email protected] or visit www.eastfinchleyfestival.org/take-part
